Event Detail

The National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS) annually presents the Young Researcher Award to early-career researchers who have demonstrated exceptional scientific achievement within the organisation. This year, five young researchers have been selected: four affiliated researchers with NINS - the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, the National Institute for Fusion Science, the National Institute for Basic Biology, and the National Institute for Physiological Sciences - and one researchers affiliated with overseas research institutes who are engaged in joint research at the Institute for Molecular Science.

To commemorate this honour, an award ceremony and commemorative talk will be held at the Nihonbashi Life Science Building, Tokyo, JAPAN. Each awardee will deliver a 20-minute presentation, offering a window into their pioneering research. These talks promise to be intellectually stimulating and filled with the wonder of the most advanced scientific discoveries. The researchers, each a leader in their respective field, will speak in a clear and engaging manner, enabling even those new to the topics to appreciate the significance and excitement of their work.

Following the lectures, we are pleased to host a panel discussion entitled "From Discovery to Deeper Mystery - Answer leads to New Question -", moderated by Professor Junichi WATANABE, Senior Professor at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. Scientific research is a process of continuous discovery - through experimentation and analysis, researchers pursue answers to pressing questions. Yet, in uncovering new knowledge, they often find themselves confronted with deeper, more profound enigmas. This is, perhaps, one of the true joys of scientific exploration. In this session, the five researchers will reflect on the questions that currently challenge and inspire them most.

The event will be live-streamed online via YouTube LIVE and niconico Live Broadcasting. We warmly encourage all those who are unable to attend in person to join us via the livestream. For those who are unavailable on the day of the event, an archived recording will be made available at a later date on the official YouTube channel of the National Institutes of Natural Sciences. Whether you found the live broadcast a little difficult to follow or simply wish to revisit the content for further study, we hope you will make full use of the archive.
