Gender Equality and Support for Women's Advancement

 NINS implements the following initiatives to promote gender equality, through first (FY2004 - 2009), second (FY2010 - 2015), third (FY2016 - 2021), and fourth (FY2022 - 2027) term.  At each Institutes of NINS also actively works to further promote gender equality.

Childcare Support System & Business Trip Accompaniment Support System

NINS introduced the Childcare support program in March 2017, and the Business Trip Accompaniment Support System in October 2018.

1. Childcare Support System

These Guidelines aim at promoting gender equality and work-life balance by procuring the National Institutes of Natural Sciences, an Inter-University Research Institute Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "NINS") to support a part of the childcare expenses arising from temporary daycare (external nursery, babysitters, etc.) or daycare of sick children or recovering children (hereinafter referred to as the "Childcare Service") of the Executive Officers and Employees holding positions at NINS, joint researchers, etc. performing joint researches, etc. at NINS and the students accepted by NINS (hereinafter referred to as the "Employees, etc.").

2. Business Trip Accompaniment Support System

The purpose of these Procedures is to promote gender equality and work life balance by the provision of some support by NINS with regard to transportation expenses when a child of an executive officer or employee who is working at the National Institutes of Natural Sciences, an Inter-University Research Institute Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "NINS"), joint researcher, etc. who is conducting research at NINS, and student who is making a business trip on NINS business (hereinafter referred to as "employees, etc.") accompanies the business trip of an employee, etc. who is the parent (hereinafter referred to as "transportation expenses with regard to the business trip accompaniment of a child").

Employment Support for Female Researchers

NINS supports the fund for the recruitment of female researchers when open recruitment is limited to women or when Positive Action in the Action Plan is made a condition of recruitment, by the leadership of the President of NINS.

Positive Action: System to actively recruit women if they are recognized as equal in performance evaluation in personnel selection.

Teleworking System

In April 2020, NINS introduced a telework system to enable telecommuting, to support balancing work and family life including childcare, to continue and promote research activities, to increase the number of female researchers at NINS, and to promote Gender Equality.
